Lagos State Calls For Organizational Support On Education

The Lagos State Government has called on corporate organizations and other philanthropists to support the government to provide quality education in the state.

The Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule, stated this on Monday while inaugurating a two-storeyed building at Ladi Lak Primary School, Apapa.

According to Adebule, the building was donated to the
state by the Managing Director, Kazuma Shipping Company, Mr. Chahid Raffoul, as part of his company’s Corporate Social Responsibility.

The deputy governor said, “Population growth in Lagos State has put pressure on the existing public schools infrastructure. Limited resources at government’s disposal are inadequate to meet the education need of the state population. Hence, support from corporate organisations and philanthropists have become necessary.”

While commending the donor, she called on other organisations to provide similar assistance to help the government to meet the goal of raising education standard in the state.

The deputy governor said the government had approved N10bn for the renovation of public schools infrastructure, adding that the intervention would help to bring significant improvement to teaching and learning in the schools.

The Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education, Dr Ganiyu Shopeyin, stated that the complementary effort by the company would go a long way in boosting the standard of education in the area.

He said SUBEB under his watch would ensure regular distribution of instructional materials and other aids to public schools to ensure that pupils enjoy quality facilities like their counterparts in private schools.

The Managing Director of Kazuma Shipping Company, Raffoul, said his firm was inspired to donate the structure to complement government’s efforts in improving the standard of education in the state.
